Joseph A. “Papa Joe” Akins, age 50, lifelong resident of Brockton, died unexpectedly November 1, 2016 at Brockton Hospital-Signature Hospital. Joe was the loving husband of Lisa A. (Dole) Akins. Born, raised and educated in Brockton, he was the son of Barbara (Look) Akins of Brockton. At the time of his death, Joe was a Recovery Specialist at High Point Treatment Center. He was known for his constant smile and quick humor. Joe was a homebody who worked nights in order to be home with his children during the day. He also enjoyed watching television, horror movies, and gambling.
Joe was the father of Justin and Courtney Akins, Joshua Burns, Lindsey Holmes and Haleigh Akins all of Brockton; loving Papa of Nazihah Akins, and Addison and Jacob Burns; brother-in-law and best friend of Stephen Dole of Brockton and brother of Anthony Meninno, John Akins, Michael Akins and Linda Melo all of Brockton. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Visiting Hours will be held in the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont Street (Rte 123) Brockton, Sunday 2-6pm. The funeral procession will gather at the funeral home Monday at 9 am for a funeral Mass in Christ the King Parish at 10 am.
