Angelo C. Addonizio, a Medford resident for most of his life, passed away peacefully, Thursday, November 3, 2016, at the Lawrence Memorial Hospital. He was 96. "Addie" as he was affectionately known to his family and friends, was the beloved husband of the late Annette "Dee Dee" (Zito) and the late Gloria (Iacono). Born in Boston he was the cherished son of the late Carmine and Carmelinda (Salone) Addonizio.
Addie worked as a talented meat cutter for many years. He started as a young boy working alongside his father at the family store in Boston’s North End, Addonizio Brother's Meat Market, which was started in the early 1900's. He eventually took over the family business and worked until his retirement in 1982. Addie was also a proud veteran of WWII. He honorably served his country in the United States Army from 1942 to 1945, seeing action in the Asiatic Pacific Theater Campaign.
Addie's greatest joy was his family. He was so proud of them and their many accomplishments. He cherished spending time with his family and enjoying good food together. He was also an avid Boston sports fan, especially the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots.
In addition to his late wives and parents, Addie is predeceased by his daughter, the late Linda Lepore. He is lovingly survived by his son, Dr. Gerard Addonizio and his wife Dr. Linda Addonizio of Mount Kisco, NY. Stepson, Sal V. Mucci, of Swampscott. He was the loving grandfather of Tiffany Freedman and her husband Dr. Marc Freedman of North Reading, Ben Addonizio, Nicole Addonizio-Re and her husband Thomas Re, David Arnold and his wife Jennifer Carpenter, all of New York. He was the loving great grandfather of Noah and Jacob Freedman, Booker and Dax Arnold.
Funeral services will be held from the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., MEDFORD, Monday, November 7th, at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Joseph Church, 118 High St., Medford, at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Sunday from 2 thru 6 p.m. Services will conclude with military honors and entombment at Holy Cross Chapel Mausoleum, Malden. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in Angelo's memory to the St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1942.
