FRIGOLETTO, Fredric D. Jr. MD, passed away peacefully at Massachusetts General Hospital, October 31, 2016, following a short illness, surrounded by his loving wife and two daughters. He was a longtime Wellesley resident and husband to Martha McKay Frigoletto and amazing father to his cherished daughters, Susan and Laurie and their husbands Dana Pratt and John Perdoni. He was the doting grandfather of Maisie, Fredrica, McKay, Roman, Emerson, Alden and Lauchlan. He was the son of Dr. Fredric D Frigoletto, Sr. and Alba (Merlino), and brother of Dr. Robert Frigoletto and wife Joanne. He was the brother in law to Dr. Donald McKay and Yvonne of Belmont and Dr. Lauchlan McKay and Dianne of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. He was the loving uncle to Darah Frigoletto, Jay Todd Frigoletto, Alexandra Mitten and Kristina Young and beloved great uncle to their children. He will be so missed.
Fredric graduated from Lawrence Academy in 1950 Brown University in 1954, Boston University with a Masters in 1955, and then served in the U.S. Army prior to attending Boston University School of Medicine where he graduated in 1962. He did his residency at Boston City Hospital and The Boston Lying In and began practicing medicine at The Boston Hospital for Women then Brigham and Women’s and finally Massachusetts General Hospital.
At MGH he was most pleased to become the Charles Montraville Green & Robert Montraville Green Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology in 1993. He authored over 200 papers, abstracts and books including research projects for the National Institute of Health. He also served as President of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology in Washington D.C. in 1997. He was a pioneer in woman’s health issues and believed passionately in protecting women’s rights. He was a devoted doctor and scientist and loved his chosen profession of medicine.
A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at the Harvard Club of Boston on Commonwealth Avenue at 11 am Thursday, November 10, 2016. Family, friends and colleagues kindly invited. In lieu of flowers donations maybe made in Dr. Frigoletto’s memory to: the Fredric D. Frigoletto, MD Endowed Chair in Obstetrics and Gynecology established to support leadership, research and community care in obstetrics.
