Jerome 'Jerry' Vovcsko- Aged 78 - Veteran USMC
Jerry passed away October 24th in Boston. He was a resident of East Bridgewater, MA and previously a resident of Falmouth, Greenfield and Worcester MA as well as Bellingham WA. He was born in New York City and grew up in Springfield Center, NY. A United States Marine Corp veteran, he served honorably from 1956-1959 with the Second Marine FSR, Fleet Marine Force. He graduated the University of Massachusetts with a degree in Education and spent many years as an educator, counselor and principal in public schools. As a musician, storyteller and illusionist, he was for years a regular at First Night in Boston and a performing staple at children’s events throughout New England, his favorite being the museum of Natural History in NY. An avid and prolific writer; he had numerous articles published in newspapers and magazines including many interviews with celebrities and entertainers- many of whom became friends and kept up correspondence through the years. He loved fishing and maintained a regular column at Nor'east Online Magazine, where he discussed fishing, tips and advice; often punctuated with stories and tales from his own experiences as both a boy in upstate NY and later as an adult fishing in and around Cape Cod. He was predeceased by his father Nicholas and mother Anna formerly of Springfield Center NY, and two brothers Paul and Nick.
He leaves behind his loving wife Donna, and family- daughters Kathleen (Maloney) and husband John of Lafayette, LA, Zoë Anna & fiancée Scott Russo of E. Bridgewater, MA and sons Jeremy of E. Bridgewater, MA, Mark of New Orleans, LA, Charles and wife Carol of Durand, MI and Richard and wife Doreen of Mansfield, MA as well as grandchildren-Amy, Zac, Benjamin, Nicholas and Steven.
