Obituary

MEDWAY: Barbara E. (Spooner) Coady, 97, died peacefully on Sunday, morning, October 30, 2016 following a brief illness.
She was born in Somerville on September 22, 1919 the daughter of the late Leslie Spooner and Marguerite (Leonard) Spooner.
Barbara has been a resident of Wayland since 1946 and previously resided in Somerville. She spent her summers as a young woman on Dudley Pond in Cochituate and remained a resident of the town for over 69 years and recently moved to Medway to be closer to her son Kevin.
She was the loving wife for 66 years of the late John Charles “Doc” Coady who died on December 23, 2007.
She was the devoted mother of Kevin T. Coady and his wife Janice Coady of Medway and Stephen E. Coady of Quechee, VT and the late J. Dennis Coady who died in 2011 and Leonard W. Coady who died in 2003. She was the mother-in-law of Nancy Coady of VA formerly of Wayland. Also survived by 8 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews. Barbara also is survived by her dearest and closest friend Janice Vocatura of Wayland. She was the sister of the late Leslie Ferreira; Mary Shea Cummings; Frannie Collinson; Jackie Spooner and Lenny Spooner.
Before moving to Wayland and while residing in Somerville where she and John raised their family, she was associated with the Arlington Candy Co. beginning as a candy maker and retiring after 20 years of dedicated and faithful service as a Manager.
Barbara was an extremely talented cake baker. She designed and made many birthday and wedding cakes for friends and family and her artistry she displayed on her cakes was exceptional. She had a wonderful voice and could also be counted on to lead the family in singing at many events and was known as the life of the party.
She was devoted to her family and especially loved being with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be fondly remembered and missed by all who loved her during her 97 years. She always had a great sense of humor and wit even in recent years following her stroke.
Visitations will be held on Thursday, November 3, 2016 from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at the John C. Bryant Funeral Home, 56 Pemberton Road (off Rte. 30), Wayland.
Family and friends may gather at the funeral home on Friday, November 4, 2016 at 9:00 am followed by her Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am at Good Shepherd Parish at St. Zepherin Church, 99 Main St (Rte, 27), Wayland.
Interment will follow in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park in Peabody.
In lieu of flowers her family kindly asks that memorial gifts in Barbara’s memory may be sent to St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
