Joseph “Jumbo” J. Frates, Jr., age 74 of Taunton, passed away on Friday, October 28, 2016 at his home.
He was the beloved husband of Carolyn A. (Whalon) Frates.
Born in East Taunton, he was a son of the late Joseph and Cecille (Gaouette) Frates, Sr.
Before retirement in 2007, Mr. Frates was employed with Taunton Municipal Lighting Plant for many years, having worked previously as a custodian with the Taunton public Schools.
Mr. Frates served his country during the Vietnam War with the Army. He enjoyed playing cards, trips to Foxwoods and was an avid sports fan. Joseph enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
Besides his loving wife Carolyn of over 47 years, his survived by his children, Kimberley Frates, James Azevedo, Anthony Azevedo all of Taunton and Keith Azevedo of King, NC. He was the brother of Brenda Lema, Patti O’Brien and Jackie Oliveira all of East Taunton, grandfather of 8 and great – grandfather of 13. He was also the brother of the late Robert Frates and the late Lorraine Newhall.
His funeral will be held on Thursday, November 3, 2016 at 9 am, with a funeral service to begin at 10 am in The Silva Funeral Home 80 Broadway, Taunton.
Interment will follow in Saint Joseph Cemetery.
Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, November 2nd from 4 to 7pm.
