Jeremiah R. (Jerry) Neto, age 70, passed to the arms of our Lord on October 27, 2016 with his loving family by his bedside. He was the son of the late Manuel R. Neto and Esther Melo Neto. He was born in Capelas, St. Michael, Azores and immigrated to Fall River when he was 9 years old. Prior to his retirement, he was employed by Lynch Construction of Cumberland, RI. Jerry enjoyed all aspects of construction work. He was a proud member of Local 610 International Laborers Union in Fall River. He was also a member of the King Phillip Yacht Club in Fall River. From an early age, Jerry could be found tinkering with cars and eventually had his own son sitting atop an engine at 3 years old to pass on his knowledge. Jerry was also a very talented stone worker and landscaper. Jerry put much thought and patience into his projects and was happiest when helping others. He loved gardening and kept friends and family supplied with his fruitful bounty. He especially loved to fish and supper was often the day's catch.
Jerry was a proud husband, father, and grandfather. Jerry is survived by his beloved wife of 46 years, Nancy (Martel) Neto, his son Brandon Neto and wife Kelly, his daughter Andrea Palumbo and husband Nicholas. He leaves five grandchildren. He was Papa to Andrew and Ethan Neto, and Vovo to Luca, Anna, and Nina Palumbo. He is survived by three brothers Aires Neto and wife Michelle of Fall River; Manuel Neto and wife Ana of Plymouth; and Jesse Neto of Fall River; and eight sisters Noemia Medeiros of Fall River; Lena Pacheco of Seekonk; Hilda Wills of Westport, Dova Leandro and husband Messias of Fall River; Teresa Pineault of Holyoke; Lisa Gomez and husband Paco of NJ; Rosemary Sylvester and husband Vito of NJ; Rose Martin of Fall River; and was predeceased by Joyce Fortier of Somerset. He also leaves a father-in-law and mother-in-law Joseph and Jane Martel, and a brother-in-law, Ronald Martel and wife Susan of Tiverton, RI. Jerry was also blessed by many nieces, nephews, and great- nieces and great-nephews. A strong and determined man, his memory will remain in everything and everyone he touched.
Memorial Mass to which relatives and friends are invited will be Saturday, November 5, 2016 at Holy Name Church, Fall River at 10:00 A.M.
Calling hours will be Friday at the Potter Funeral Home from 5-8 P.M.
Interment will be private.
