Sam Perez, age 79, of Norton, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 28, 2016 in Wingate at Norton. He was the husband of Saundra V. (Trova) Perez.
Born in Las Palmas, Gran Canary Islands, Spain on November 2, 1936, he was a son of the late Jose Marrero Perez and Soledad Perez Tejera.
Sam grew up and was educated in the Gran Canary Island, and later spent seven-years in Caracas, Venezuela where he attended college. He moved to the United States in 1962 and settled in Norton
Prior to retiring, Mr. Perez had worked as a bartender at the former Ann’s Place Restaurant in Norton and had previously been employed for many years at the former Fernandes Supermarket in Norton and later when the company became Sweet Life Food.
Sam was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Norton and was a former member of the Norton Lions Club. He enjoyed cooking and spending time with family and friends.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sons Peter Joseph Perez and his wife Carol of Attleboro, James Christian Perez of California, and Marcus Albert Perez and his wife Kelly of Florida. He was the grandfather of Christina, Peter, Tyler and Sidney Perez.
His funeral Mass, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be celebrated on Saturday, November 5th at 11:00 A.M. in St. Mary’s Church, 1 Power St., Norton. Burial will follow at the Timothy Plain Cemetery in Norton.
Visitation will be held prior to the services on Saturday morning from 9:00-10:30 A.M. at the Norton Memorial Funeral Home, 19 Clapp St. (Off Route 140, Taunton Ave.) Norton.
In lieu of flowers, Sam’s family would prefer that donations in his memory be made to St. Mary’s Church building Fund, 1 Power St., Norton, MA 02766 or the Community VNA, 10 Emory St., Attleboro, MA 02703.
