Obituary

Baghai, Betty Jane (Lehman) 93, of Wellesley, beloved wife for 68 years of Ali Baghai, passed away peacefully on October 24, 2016. A sweet kind soul, she deeply loved nature and family.

Born on a small farm near Lake Odessa, MI, she graduated Lake Odessa High School in 1941, Grace Hospital School of Nursing in 1945, and became a Registered Nurse. She immediately enlisted in the Army proudly serving as 2nd Lt 69th Field Hospital in Okinawa during World War II. Following the war, she studied health and nutrition at the University of Michigan. There she met her husband to be, Ali, who was pursuing a graduate degree in public health engineering. In 1949 they moved to Pittsburgh, PA and in 1964 moved to Wellesley, MA. Betty was a devoted wife and mother, yet she had many hobbies. Always busy, she found time to enjoy gardening, bird watching, rug braiding, refinishing, crocheting, reading and helping her children with their various endeavors. She always encouraged her children to strive to the top, never give up, and to believe in yourself. Betty and her husband were passionate walkers and led Wellesley Senior walking groups for 28 years.

Betty is survived by her son Hassen (Robin), daughter Nina (Keith), and sister-in-law Phyllis Lehman. Proud grandmother of Holly (Paul), Ali (Kristin), Jeffrey, James and step grandchildren Dylan and Lauren. Proud great grandmother of Haley, Jack, Charlie, Brayden and Callen, plus many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her dear daughter Lois, husband Ali, sister Ruth Newton, brothers Roy Trude, Emerson, Owen and Leon Lehman.

A family memorial service is planned for a future date in Lake Odessa, MI. Donations in Betty's memory may be made to the Massachusetts Audubon, 208 South Great Rd, Lincoln, MA 01773.
