WAYLAND: Ernestine L. (Hazard) Smith, 87, died peacefully and comfortably on Tuesday morning, October 25, 2016 following a brief period of declining health.
She was born in Framingham on October 30, 1928 the daughter of the late Irving Hazard and Lyla (Irving) Hazard.
She is survived by her beloved and devoted daughter Patricia J. “Patty” Smith of Norwood and she was the wife of the late Harold L. Smith who died on April 20, 1990. She is also survived by her longtime companion Charles Roche of Natick. She was the sister of Irving Hazard of Illinois; Jane Norbett of Montana; Brent Hazard of Florida; Ernest Hazard of California and the late Hazel Pierce and step-sister of David Powers and Steven Powers.
Ernestine had been a resident of Natick for over thirty years and was a longtime resident of Wayland and graduated from Wayland High School with the Class of 1946. For many years, along with her husband, they owned and operated the Valley View Farm which was located on the corner of Route 30 and Oak Street in Cochituate. For several years she was associated as a Secretary with the Gibbs Funeral Home of Cochituate. She retired after over 30 years of dedicated service as an Administrative Assistant for Arnold Zaltas, Attorney at Law in Natick.
She was an avid walker, enjoyed gardening and horseback riding in her earlier years.
She will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved her over the years.
Visitations will be held on Thursday, October 27, 2016 from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at the John C. Bryant Funeral Home, 56 Pemberton Road (Off Rte. 30), Wayland.
Private family interment will be held at the Smith family lot in Lakeview Cemetery in Wayland.
