Shirley Mae Thacker Skaggs, 78, of Tifton passed away Monday, October 24, 2016, at her residence. Her funeral service will be held at 4:00 p.m. Friday, October 28, 2016, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals with the Rev. Roger Tucker officiating. Mrs. Skaggs will be laid to rest at Tift Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Thursday, October 27, 2016, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.
Matthew Yawn, Chris Skaggs, Justin Carter, Pete Skaggs, Michael Sivalia, Brandon Skaggs and Travis Skaggs will serve as pallbearers.
Born March 17, 1938 in Somerset, Kentucky, Mrs. Skaggs was the daughter of the late Joe Dault Thacker and Grace Ellen Abbott Thacker. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Ellard Skaggs, who died December 11, 2001; three brothers, Everett Thacker, Kenneth Thacker and Joe Thacker; and three sisters, Wanda Wenrick, Geneva Puckett and Brenda Smith. She was retired from Tifton Textiles and a member of Tifton’s First Baptist Church. She loved her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ and loved listening to Christian music. She was a homemaker, and wonderful wife, mom, sister and friend.
Mrs. Skaggs is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Steven B. and Loretta Skaggs and Jeffrey S. and Pamela Skaggs; one daughter and son-in-law, Rhonda L. and Bronzal Dixon; two sisters, Gloria J. Lair and Anna Bennett; grandchildren, Joshua Jolley Skaggs, Christopher Skaggs, Matthew Yawn, Aleshia Skaggs Peters, Heather Belcher, Jake Yawn, Kayla Skaggs Carter and Rebecca Sexton; step-grandchildren, Danielle Dixon (Kayson) and Drue Dixon; 19 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
