Obituary

Virginia M. “Ginny” (Rowen) Hopgood, age 86, of Brockton, died peacefully October 22, 2016 at Brockton Hospital-Signature Healthcare. Ginny was the wife of the late Henry E. Hopgood. Born and raised in Norwood, she was the daughter of the late Raymond and Katherine (King) Rowen. Ginny was a graduate of Norwood High School and St. Margaret’s School of Nursing and had worked as a nurse in the Boston area before staying home to raise her family. She enjoyed time with her family and time spent at Cape Cod. Ginny’s goal in life was to improve her community and was a strong advocate for people less fortunate. She was a longtime communicant of St. Patrick’s Church and taught CCD for many years. She was also a member of the Brockton Interfaith Council, St. Vincent de Paul Society, Multiple Sclerosis Society and Camp Fire Girls.

Ginny was the mother of Joseph Hopgood and his wife Lorraine of East Bridgewater, Kathleen Gaudreau and her husband Robert , Christopher Hopgood, Virginia Margeson and her husband John and Elizabeth Swain all of Brockton, Jeanne Katz of Fall River and the late Kevin Hopgood. She is also survived by 19 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, a sister Ethel Lambrecht of Dedham and many nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Robert and John Rowen and Muriel O’Toole.

Visiting Hours will be held in the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont Street (Rte 123) Brockton, Wednesday 3-8pm. The funeral procession will gather at the funeral home Thursday at 9am for a funeral Mass in St. Patrick’s Church at 10am. Burial will follow in Knollwood Memorial Park, Canton.
