Obituary

Mrs. Sara Havey “Nana” Edson, 77, passed away on October 23, 2016. Daughter of the late Frank L Havey and Alyce Donohue Havey was born on March 30, 1939 in Boston, Mass. She had just celebrated her 60th wedding anniversary with her husband Lionel. As a young child she lived in the North End of Boston, MA and then moved to Pembroke, MA where she graduated Silver Lake Regional High School in 1956, the very first graduating class of the new Silver Lake Regional High School. She is survived by her husband, Lionel of Halifax. Her children Jonathan and his wife Anne, of Plymouth, MA. Susan Edson Barton of Halifax, Mark and his wife Joanie of Southborough, MA . Paul and his wife Melanie of Bridgewater MA, and Christopher of Holopaw, FLA. Her eleven grandchildren: Nathan, Kevin, Melissa, Sara, Jack, Julie, Jason, Tony, Jessica, Alan, and Jonathan. Her two great grandchildren Alexander and Amelia. Her sister in law Maria Havey of CA, and her nephew Alan, and his daughter Lauren of CA. She was predeceased by her brother, Paul Havey , CA.
As a young child, Sara grew up in Pembroke, MA. She spent many summers as a child at Camp Parker, Pembroke. Later in life Sara spent summers at Camp Parker with her husband Lionel and their children. Summers at Camp Parker instilled a love for water, fishing, and boating with her children. Sara and Lionel raised their five children in Abington. Many of Sara’s later years were spent boating and relaxing on her beach at her home in Halifax. Weekend gatherings at her home were one of her favorite things. Children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and friends were always welcome to the family’s holidays. Some of Sara’s favorite pastimes were knitting, reading, and cooking (recipes with three ingredients or less!). Above all, Sara loved being with her family. She loved nothing more than having the whole family together for a family barbecue in the back yard. She looked forward, every year, to the Edson Family Reunions, at her home, when the Florida Edson’s would come to visit. She loved that everyone was there, sleeping in tents in her yard. Visiting hours will be held at the Shepherd Funeral Home, 7 Mattakeesett St. Pembroke on Thursday October 27, from 4:00 to 7:00PM, followed by a Service in the funeral home at 7:00PM.
