Obituary

Susanna S. Brown, 76, of Hartford Pike, Scituate, died Sunday, October 23, 2016 at her home after courageously battling breast cancer, surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Berwyn, Illinois, she was a daughter of the late Joseph W. Scofield, Jr and Nan Jean (Strobridge) Scofield. She had lived in Merrimac, ME for forty years before moving to North Scituate, Rhode Island in 2011. Susanna attended Michigan State University where she earned a BA in Medical Technology, and Lesley University where she earned a Master’s in Education. Before her retirement she had taught in the science department at Rupert Nock Middle School in Newburyport, MA for many years.

Susanna had many hobbies and interests, as well as a love of learning that was present in all she did. She loved nature, and spent time birding, gardening and observing wildlife. She enjoyed spending time teaching art classes with her daughter and middle school students. She was also a faithful member of St. Philip Catholic Church in Greenville, Rhode Island. Throughout her life, Susanna consistently carried herself with strength and courage in the face of any obstacle.

She is survived by her beloved children Kelly Brown Huntington and her husband, Timothy Mayo Huntington, of Boston, Massachusetts, and Julie Lamin Sparling and her husband, Edward R. Sparling, of North Scituate, as well as her grandchildren Candace, Jamienata, Safieyatu and Samuel, and her great grandchildren Eli Matthew Lamin and Oliver Walden Lamin and her brother John Goddard Scofield of Costa Rica. She was the sister of the late Joseph Walker Scofield. Her family would like to express their thanks to the countless family, friends and health professionals who kept Susanna in their care and prayers.

Her funeral will be held Thursday at 8:30 am from Anderson-Winfield Funeral Home, Rt 44 at Greenville Common, Greenville. Mass of Christian Burial 9:30 am in St. Philip Church, 622 Putnam Pike, Greenville. Burial in Resurrection Cemetery, Cumberland. Vistation Wednesday from 4-7PM. In lieu of flowers donations in her memory may be made to St. Theresa’s Shrine, 35 Dion Drive, Harrisville, Rhode Island, 02830.
