Obituary

Marian Louise Welsh, 101, of South Dartmouth, passed away on Wednesday, October 19, 2016 at Brandon Woods of Dartmouth. She was born in Central Village, Westport, December 4, 1914 and was the daughter of John and Marguerite (Wing) Davis. Marian was married to Joseph E. Welsh on July 3, 1941 at St Lawrence Church, New Bedford. They settled in North Dartmouth in 1953. Marian was a 1933 graduate of Westport High School and was a 1936 graduate of Thibodeau Business School and she worked for several years for her father at Davis Chevrolet in Fall River. Later on she worked in the cafeteria and in the office at Bishop Stang High School in Dartmouth.

Marian had many friends in her lifetime and consequently her house was always filled with lots of aunts, uncles and friends around the dinner table. There were lots of nickel/dime poker games around that table and always Perry Como, Sinatra, Andy Williams or Nat King Cole spinning on the big console stereo. There were endless hours of beach time at Anthony’s and Round Hill and summer sails on the bay with Ludy and Uku. Marian loved spending time in California visiting family and went there often. Her love of life was palpable and she was truly a Glass Full Gal.

Marian is survived by her sons Dr. David B. Welsh and his wife Ahlene of Claremont, Ca., James L. Welsh and his wife Patricia of South Dartmouth, Ma., and her son-in-law Christopher Lee of Abington, Ma. She is also survived by her five grandchildren, Jeanne Paradise, Katherine Welsh, Andrea Bent, Joseph Welsh and Terence Welsh and four great grandchildren William Paradise, Finnegan Paradise, her namesake, Marian Louise Bent and Quincy Bent as well as many nieces and nephews.

She was pre-deceased by her husband Joseph E. Welsh, her daughter Marguerite Davis Lee and her siblings Elizabeth Gomes, Ruth Talbot and John Davis.
