Obituary

CHICOPEE – Rita L. (Blanchard) Lauzon, 95, of the Willimansett section of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Monday, October 17, 2016. She passed into Eternal Life at Mercy Medical Center in Springfield surrounded by all the memories that she loved and cherished. She was born at home in Chicopee on August 19, 1921, a beloved daughter of the late Alfred J. and Amelia (Gordon) Blanchard. She was raised in Chicopee, attended Chicopee schools and was a lifelong resident of the city. She was employed for 33 years as a secretary at the Reynolds Manufacturing Company in Holyoke and retired in 1981. She was a communicant of Saint Anne Church in Chicopee where she served as a Eucharistic Minister for the homebound of the parish and was a member of the Saint Anne Sodality Guild of the Church. She also served as a volunteer with the Chicopee Council on Aging. In her leisure time, she enjoyed sewing and watching television. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Charles J. “Frenchy” Lauzon who was Called Home on May 16, 1989. Besides her parents and her husband, she was also predeceased by her dear brother, Aime Blanchard; her two dear sisters, Olive Desorcy and Agnes Blanchard; and her dear sister-in-law, Esther Blanchard. She leaves her dear sister-in-law, Theresa Lauzon of Sherbrooke, Province of Quebec, Canada; her three dear nieces and her dear nephew, Lucille T. Desorcy of Chicopee, Enid Blanchard of Boston and Carol Lauzon and Normand Lauzon, both of Sherbrooke; and her many dear friends and extended members of the Lauzon and Blanchard families. Her funeral will be held on Monday morning, October 24, 2016 beginning at the St. Pierre-Phaneuf Fairview Chapels, (413-533-3307), 506 Britton Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, (funeral home will open at 8:30 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Saint Anne Church, 30 College Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her burial will follow the Mass at Sainte Rose Cemetery, 49 Olsen Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday, October 23, 2016 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. The parking lot is located in the rear of the funeral home.
