Obituary

It is with incredible sadness that we say goodbye to Christopher Joseph Spiridis-Chase, 24 years old of Saugus MA, formerly of Weymouth and South Boston, who passed away on October 15, 2016 as the result of an overdose.
Chris leaves behind his father, Anthony Spiridis of Saugus and his mother, Darlene Mersereau and step-father Mark of Weymouth. He was the best big brother to Carly Pierce and Mark Mersereau. Chris was the beloved grandson of Judith Chase of Norwell, having lived with her as a young child, and his paternal grandmother Nancy Spiridis of Lynn. He had an extraordinary bond with his great aunt Joan Murphy of Salem and her partner Tom Pelletier, as well as Gail and Jim Simpson. Chris will be deeply missed by his great grandmother Elva Sewell. He had a special closeness with his cousin Kristen Moschella. Chris is survived by and will be deeply missed by many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends who became family.
We will forever remember how much Chris loved and cared for us all. His humor, his love for family and friends, his kindness and generosity spoke volumes of his joy and exuberance for life and for these, and many other wonderful traits, he will live in our hearts forever.
Chris’ life was much too short and for many of his years he struggled with his addiction, but he also overcame many challenges and proudly achieved many of the things which he set his mind to accomplishing. He became an independent young man, working hard to fulfill his dream of owning a motorcycle and car. He loved to ride, and he loved to show off his bike. He could fix anything and loved taking things apart to figure out how they worked. He was a true animal lover, who brought home every type of creature as a “new pet”.
Over the past several years, Chris had been in active recovery. He worked hard on his sobriety and never downplayed the seriousness of his addiction and the opportunities it stole from him. He was a happier man for the control he had gained over his illness over the past few years. His greatest joy was in reconnecting with his family after many years of struggle.
If you have a loved one who is fighting addiction, please never stop fighting for their recovery and always let them know you love and support them.
Visiting Hours will be held at the Casper Funeral Home located 187 Dorchester Street in South Boston on Thursday from 4-8 PM.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Christopher’s memory to the The Colin Maroney Memorial Foundation, 185 Rinaldo Road, Weymouth MA 02191.
