Emily (Johnson) Tankard, 82, of Milan, passed away on Sunday October 16, 2016 at the Coos County Nursing Home. She was born in Milan on November 30, 1933 the daughter of Emil and Alberta (Woodward) Johnson and was a lifelong resident. She graduated from Berlin High in 1951 and from Plymouth State College in 1973. She taught third grade and was also principal for 25 years at the Milan Village School. She began her teaching career at the Guardian Angel School in Berlin. She was a volunteer for many years for senior citizens in Milan and Dummer. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, the Emily Flint Rebekah Lodge, the Androscoggin Valley Retired Teachers Association and the NH Retired Teachers Association.
Family includes her daughters Donna Gagne and husband Glenn of Milan, Beth Lorden and companion Yves Zornio of Berlin, Karen Flint and husband Richard of Milan and Jennifer Gernhard and husband Douglas of Lyme, NH; 11 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Clifford Tankard on April 13, 2016 and a brother Donald Johnson.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday October 22, 2016 at 11 AM at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 101 Norway St., Berlin. Interment will be in the Hillcrest Cemetery in Milan. Relatives and friends may call at the Bryant Funeral Home, 180 Hillside Ave., Berlin, on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM.
