Obituary

James William “Billy” Griffin, 79, of Irwin County, Georgia, died Sunday, October 16, 2016, at the Rehabilitation Center of South Georgia in Tifton.

Funeral services will be held 11 AM, Wednesday, October 19, 2016, at Big Creek Baptist Church in Irwin County, with the Rev. Wayne McCrimmon, the Rev. Ed Reeves, and the Rev. Tracy Clements officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the sanctuary.

Mr. Griffin was born October 21, 1936, in Irwin County, to the late Jesse William & Minnie Henderson Griffin. He served his country honorably in the United States Marine Corps and the United States Army during the Korean and Vietnam War eras. He retired from the military in 1964. He was a very active member and deacon of Big Creek Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Judith Clements Griffin of Irwin County; a son, John William Griffin and his wife Stacy of Moultrie; two grandchildren: Joseph William Griffin and Sophie Taylor Griffin; a brother, Charles & Marcia Griffin of San Jose, California; a sister, Mavis & Steve Plemons of Green Cove Springs, Florida; and a sister-in-law, Thelma Griffin of Muldrow, Oklahoma. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Clyde Griffin.
