Obituary

James Elvin Harnage, Capt. USAF Ret., 78, of Tifton passed away Saturday, October 15, 2016, at his residence. His funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 19, 2016, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals with the Rev. Rocky Carrington and the Rev. Mark Herrington officiating. Mr. Harnage will be laid to rest at Oak Ridge Cemetery with a military chaplain officiating and with full military honors. The family will receive friends Wednesday, October 19, 2016, from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of the service at Bowen-Donaldson Home.

Rick Carrington, Chad Scarbor, Brad Scarbor, Tracy Hunter, Tarol Hunter and James Buckner will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Jim and Barbara Daniel, David and Marsha Tillman and Jack and Trudy Gordon.

Born July 9, 1938 in Moultrie, Mr. Harnage was the son of the late James Lester Harnage and Willie Bell Peacock Harnage. He was also preceded in death by three sisters, Wilma Morey and Delitha Mae Harnage and Elizabeth Redmam. He was retired from the United States Air Force as a pilot and flight instructor. He was a devout Christian and served in the prison ministry in Colquitt County for 18 years. He had lived in Tifton for the past 3 ½ years.

Mr. Harnage is survived by his wife, Carla “Jeannie” Carrington Harnage of Tifton; two step-sons and their wives, Chad and Kelly Scarbor of Leesburg and Brad and Liza Scarbor of Irwinville; one son adopted in the faith, James Buckner of Sparks; one sister, Anthis Sellers of Moultrie; and seven grandchildren, Keith, Lilly Anne, Lana, Ethan, Ellie, Dustin and Maia.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Hospice of Tift Area, P. O. Box 747, Tifton, GA 31793.
