Giuseppe Zannelli died peacefully at the Lawrence General Hospital on Wednesday. He was 78. Born and raised in Palermo, Sicily, he was the son of the late Nicolo and Adele (Valenti) Zannelli. He came to the United States with his family on April 25, 1974 and lived in Somerville before settling in Melrose. A devoted husband, father and grandfather who loved time with his family and friends, Giuseppe worked as a presser in the clothing industry. He was a long-time member of the Santa Rosalia Society in the North End. He was also a devotee and fan of Inter Soccer Club.
The beloved husband of Maria (Carcia), he was a devoted father to Adele Faso and her husband Danilo of Amesbury, Anna Sabrina Coco and her husband Giovanni of North Reading, Nicolo Zannelli and his wife Lisa of Wilmington, Gaetano Zannelli and his husband Michael Jewer of Tewksbury. He was a loving grandfather of Alessandro and Stefano Faso, Gianluca and Marco Coco, Giuseppe-Anthony and Francesca-Rose Zannelli. He was a dear brother to Lucia Zannelli, Caterina Paterno, Anna D'Aleo and Silvia Colletta, all of Sicily and a dear cousin of Giuseppe, Paolo, Francesco and Mimmo Zannelli and Salvatore Calo. He is also survived by many brothers and sisters-in-law.
Family and friends may visit at the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford on Monday from 4 – 8 PM and again on Tuesday morning, October 18th at 9 followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Anthony Church, 38 Oakes St., Everett, at 10 AM. Services will conclude with burial at Holy Cross Cemetery, Malden.
