Gerald F. “Gerry” Gross, age 75 of Brockton died Wednesday October 12, 2016 after a brief illness. Born in Brockton the son of the late Henry and Hazel (Dunn) Gross, he remained a lifelong resident of the city.
A 1959 graduate of Brockton High School, Gerry also received a degree from Dean Junior College. He then enlisted in the US Air Force and served in Vietnam. Following his military service, Gerry began his lengthy career in the trucking industry. He started his career with Teamsters Local 653 as a driver for UPS and Roadway Express. In 1969 Gerry was elected the youngest Business Agent to hold office for Teamsters Local 653. Throughout his lengthy and prestigious career, Gerry worked his way up from Business Agent to become Secretary Treasurer – Principal Officer of Teamsters Local Union NO. 653. Gerry was also elected to represent all of New England as a member of the Joint Council 10 Executive Board. He was most proud of helping the union grow from the inspiration of his father who founded the local union.
Gerry lived life to the fullest. He was proud, independent and a friend of friends. His hard work and dedication to his members has provided many great opportunities that without his efforts would not be possible.
Gerry leaves two daughters Rebecca M. Joseph and her husband George Joseph, III of Norton and Tanya A. Bejarano and her husband Jose of Halifax. He also leaves five grandchildren Aria and Celia Joseph and Nicholas, Alexander and Summer Bejarano and longtime girlfriend Susanne Freitas of Bourne.
Visiting hours will be held in the Conley Funeral Home 138 Belmont St. (rte. 123) Brockton on Sunday 4-8pm. The procession will gather at the funeral home on Monday at 8 am for a funeral Mass at Christ the King Church at 9am. Burial in Calvary Cemetery.
