Sophie B. (Czarnowski) Nigro of Needham died on Saturday August 6th at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston. She was 87 years old. Mrs. Nigro was a Needham resident for 63 years. A former employee of the Middlesex Button Company in Kenmore Square, Sophie the secretary for the Needham Housing Authority for many years. After her retirement Mrs. Nigro along with her husband Larry volunteered for several years at the Opportunity Shop in Needham. The beloved wife of 63 years of Lawrence J. Nigro, she was the loving mother of Lawrence J. Jr. and his wife Eness of Sioux Falls, So Dakota, Richard P. of Bow, NH, David P. and his wife Susanne of Needham and A. Vicki Carpenger and her husband Kevin of Longwood, FL. Sister of Josephine Johnson of Norwood, and the late Frank, Edward, Stanley and Helen Czarnowski. She is also survived by 8 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Funeral from the Eaton Funeral Home 1351 Highland Ave Needham on Wednesday August 10th at 9:00 am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Joseph Church at 10:00 am. Relatives and friends are kindly invited. Visiting hours Tuesday 2-6 PM. Interment St. Mary’s Cemetery in Needham.
