Obituary

Richard S. (Dick) Brenneman passed away peacefully at home in Natick on Friday morning, October 7 2016 at the age of 91. He was the beloved husband of the late Joan Marie (Powers) Brenneman who died in 2006. Born in Huntington PA, son of the late Richard and Helen (Daughenbaugh) Brenneman. He graduated from Natick High in 1943 where he played football. Immediately after graduating from NHS, he enlisted in the Navy and served on the submarine the USS Scabbardfish, completing five war patrols in the Pacific in 1944-45. Dick mustered out of the Navy in 1946 and returned to Natick, marrying Joan Powers in 1949. He attended Boston University on the GI Bill and graduating Phi Beta Kappa with a B.S. in chemistry in 1951. He spent nearly his entire professional career with the consulting firm Arthur D Little, working throughout the US, Canada and Europe and was granted 10 patents in the area of ink and paper manufacturing, most notably was his patent for erasable ink.

Mr. Brenneman was an active artist and craftsman working on oil paintings, water colors, pen and ink drawings, woodcuts, engravings, mosaics, textiles and furniture making. The brain of a scientist and the heart of an artist, a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by five children, Tom Brenneman and his wife Ruth of Harwich, Mark Brenneman of MD, Patricia Brenneman and her husband Ron of MN, Jim Brenneman and Ellen Brenneman of Natick, his beloved grandchildren Emily, Dave and his wife Mina, Matt and his wife Jen, Mike, Adam and his wife Valerie, David, dearest great-grand children, Cameron, Maddy, Tyson, Will, AJ, Maggie, Sam, Leo, three sisters Joann Fair, June Stephens, Susan Ciopa, and many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Service of Remembrance on Saturday, October 15 at 12 Noon in the Chapel of the John Everett and Sons Funeral Home, 4 Park Street, at Natick Common.

Visiting hour on Saturday beginning at 11:00 A.M. prior to the service.
