Lucille C. (Powell) Goodine, 94, of New Bedford died Saturday October 8, 2016 at Royal Taber Street Nursing Home. She was the wife of the late David C. Goodine.
Born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late Roy C. and Annette (Slater) Powell, she had lived in New Bedford all of her life. She was a graduate of New Bedford High School and attended Kinyon-Campbell Business School.
She was a member of Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church, where she served as a Sunday School teacher, trustee, missionary, and stewardess. She was a member of the Martha D. Webb Missionary Society.
Mrs. Goodine was formerly employed as a senior clerk typist in the Registrar's Office at UMass-Dartmouth for 14 years until her retirement. She had previously been employed at Raytheon Corporation in North Dighton for 14 years.
She was a member of the Martha Briggs Educational Club and had been a volunteer at the New Bedford Whaling National Historical Park.
Survivors include five nieces and nephews, Seymour Merkman, Ronald Merkman, Arthur Merkman, Annette Grant, and Connie DeBarros; and many great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was predeceased by her sister, Montine Merkman and her niece, Lucille Merkman.
Her Funeral Service will be held on Friday at 11 AM at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford. Visitation will be on Friday from 10-11 AM prior to the service. Burial will be in Rural Cemetery. For directions and guestbook, please visit www.saundesrdwyer.com.
