Obituary

Thomas J. Hayes, 93, of Medfield, died suddenly at his home on October 8, 2016. He was the beloved husband of the departed Margaret E. Hayes, to whom he was married for 65 years.

Born in Boston, July 31, 1923, the son of the late Harold and Agnes (Mulcahy) Hayes, Mr. Hayes lived in Roxbury for many years before moving to Medfield, where he lived for 43 years.

Mr. Hayes served as Seaman First Class, Seabee Division, during WWII.

Mr. Hayes had worked at Polaroid Corporation for 26 years and PH Mechanical for 6 years before retiring.

He is survived by his children, Thomas J. Hayes, Jr., of South Boston, Stephen M. Hayes and his wife Maureen of Medfield, Maureen Johannessen Russ and her husband John of East Walpole, and Frank D. Hayes of Weymouth.

He was the beloved brother of Paul A. Hayes, the late Helen Frawley, Marion MacLennan, the late Harold (Buddy) Hayes, and the late Dorothy Meade.

He is also survived by his grandchildren, Cassandra Hayes, Nicole Bishop-Hayes, Jason and Kyle Johannessen, Maura da Silva, and Margot and Michael Hayes, and his great-grandchildren Mia Johannessen, Emmett and Arlo Bishop-Hayes, and Nicholas and Stephanie da Silva.

Visiting Hours will be held on Wednesday, October 12, from 4-7pm with a prayer service immediately following at Ginley Funeral Home, 892 Main Street, Walpole. Burial will take place at a later date in the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.
