Obituary

Mr. Edmund “Ted” Smith, 75, of Andover, passed away on October 4, 2016, at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born on March 22, 1941, he was the son of the late Edmund and Mary (Holden) Smith. Ted was born and raised in Andover and graduated from Andover High School, class of 1959.
After high school, Ted enlisted in the United States Air Force. After completing basic training and basic medical school, at Lakeland AFB in San Antonio, Texas, he went to Pharmacy Technical School in Gunte AFB, Montgomery, Alabama. He was aligned to the 32nd USAF hospital and John Morse Veteran Hospital in the city of Minot, North Dakota that was affiliated with Minot AFB. He served as a pharmacy technician for over 3 years and was discharged in the morning of November 22, 1963, on the day that President Kennedy was assassinated.
After discharge from the Air Force, Ted went to work for Western Electric in North Andover and later to become AT&T Technology and Lucent Technology. He completed 36 years of service and retired in 2001, with the buyout for early retirement. The last job he held was as a Final Inspector of switching bays.
In his spare time, Ted enjoyed the Boston Red Sox, the New England Patriots and also N.A.S.C.A.R. He loved to read about current events in the daily newspaper. He will be dearly missed.
He is survived by his sisters; Shirley M. Brennan and Audrey C. Acciard, both of North Andover, MA and nieces and nephews and a longtime partner; Emilia Marin of Hampstead, New Hampshire.
Visitation will be held on Monday, October 10, 2016, at 10 AM followed by a Funeral Service at 11 AM. Relatives and friends are most welcome to attend. Interment will be held in Spring Grove Cemetery in Andover.
