Obituary

John J. “Joe” Creavin, passed away suddenly at his home on Wednesday, October 4th, 2016. Born and raised in Taughmaconnel, County Roscommon, Ireland. He came to the United States as a young man and was educated in Boston. For several years he lived in the Codman Hill section of Dorchester and moved to Milton 45 years ago. Mr. Creavin served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a retired employee of The Gillette Corporation, a former member of the D.A.V., the American Legion, the Korean War Vets., the Knights of Columbus Lower Mills Post, #180, the Irish Music Club and the Irish Cultural Center. The beloved husband of the late Ellen M. (Whyte) Creavin, he was the devoted father of Maria B. Plaus and her husband Bill of Denver, CO, Stephen T. Creavin and his wife Beth of Wayland and the late John J. Creavin and his wife Denise of Franklin. Mr. Creavin is also survived by his cherished grandchildren Alana, Joseph and Deirdre Plaus and Brendan, Ryan, Stephen M. and Thomas Creavin as well as his brothers, sisters and in-laws; Patrick Creavin and his wife Marion of Ireland, Thomas Creavin and his wife Maureen of Roslindale, Martin Creavin of Somerville and Daniel Creavin and his wife Jean of TN, Mary Ryan of Methuen and the late John Ryan, and Kathleen McDaid and her husband Pat of Somerville. He was the dear friend of Kathleen Ahern of Quincy. He was also very close to his wife's relatives: Sister Rita Whyte, DC of England, Joe Whyte of Carver the late Mary Whyte, the late Jack Whyte and Rose Whyte of Ireland, the late Thomas and Bobbie Whyte, the late Frank and Mary Kelman, the late Thomas and Teresa Moogan, the late Joe and Kay Clesham and the late Sister Elizabeth Whyte, SMG. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Mary of the Hills Church, Milton, Wednesday, October 12th at 11 AM. Visiting Hours will be held at the Alfred D. Thomas Funeral Home, 326 Granite Ave., Milton, Tuesday 4 to 8PM. Burial will be in Mt. Benedict Cemetery, West Roxbury. In Lieu of flowers expressions of sympathy may be made to the Columban Fathers, 310 Adams St., Quincy, MA 02169.
