Obituary

Albert F. Hanwell age 91 of Milton, Cotuit and West Palm Beach, passed away October 3rd. Born in Boston, he graduated from St. Ann’s School in Neponset, English High School, received his BA and MSW from Boston College and was a Navy Veteran of WW II. Albert was an active member of the Milton Little League where he was a member of the Board of Directors and a coach, he also coached both basketball and baseball for St. Ann’s School in Neponset, he was a member of the board of Directors of Catholic Charities and a member of the Parish Council and a Eucharistic Minister at St. Elizabeth’s Church in Milton. Professionally he served as the Director of Child Welfare for the State of Maine, Professor of Social Work at Boston College and was the Associate Dean of the Graduate School of Social Work at Boston College before retiring in 2000. Beloved husband of the late Ann T. (Doherty). Devoted father of Rev. John J. Hanwell, S.J. of New York City, Neil F. Hanwell and his wife Kathleen of Milton, Ann Therese Doyle and her husband Terrence of Marshfield and Kevin A. Hanwell and his wife Cathleen of North Attleboro. Devoted son of the late Josephine A. (Dasha) and John J. Hanwell. Cherished grandfather of Timothy & William Doyle, Sean, Andrew, Mitchell, Robert, & Emma Hanwell. Brother in law of Neil Doherty and his wife Carol of Marshfield, Helen Lee and her husband Thomas of Centerville, Mary Pipia of Quincy, Claire Stanton and her late husband Joseph of Braintree, Bernard Doherty and his wife Lois of Quincy, William Donovan and his late wife Catherine of Dorchester, Frances O’Toole and her husband Robert of Milton, Paul Doherty and his wife Patsy of North Carolina and the late Edward Doherty. Funeral Mass at St. Elizabeth Church, Milton, Saturday morning at 11 am. Visiting hours at the Alfred D. Thomas Funeral Home, 326 Granite Ave., Milton, Friday, 4 to 8 PM. Burial Milton Cemetery. In lieu of flowers expressions of sympathy may be made to USA Northeast Province of the Society of Jesus 39 E. 83rd St. NY, NY 10028.
