Obituary


Abington – Eleanor “Ellie” (Crossman) Diersch 88, of Abington, formerly of Hingham, passed away Tuesday October 4 at the South Shore Hospital in Weymouth.

Born and raised in Rockland she was the daughter of the late Horace and Violet (Braun) Crossman and a graduate of Rockland High, Class of 1946.

After graduation Ellie went to work for the Stetson Shoe Company until her marriage to Albert Diersch. Returning to the work force later in her life, she had served as a credit manager for the South Shore Oil / Robbie Fuel Company.

In her retirement Ellie had contributed five thousand hours of volunteer service at the South Shore Hospital, she truly found joy in giving to others.

She was a life-long and loyal member of the First Baptist Church in North Abington, where she was allowed to express her love of music having sung in the church choir for sixty-eight years. Ellie was truly gifted with a beautiful singing voice which she shared throughout her entire life. In the ‘70’s she joined the “Fine Arts Chorale Group” and in the ‘80’s went on to take part in a singing tour of Europe.

Ellie is survived by her loving children; Cheryl Diersch of Burlington, VT, David Diersch and his wife Grace of Weymouth, Lisa May and her husband Robert of Milton, VT and Steven Diersch and his wife Deirdre of Hingham. Additionally she is survived by nine grandchildren; Autumn, Luke, Emily, Shauna, Cody, Hayley, Brittney, Dylan and Olivia as well as two great grandchildren Emma and Kaylee.

Her funeral service will be held Saturday October 8 at 10:00 AM in the First Baptist Church, 219 Adams Street, Abington, MA. Burial will follow in the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Rockland. Visiting hours will be held Friday October 7 from 4:00-8:00 PM.
