Paul Lincoln Harper, of Plympton, Massachusetts,passed away peacefully on the evening of September 26, 2016 at the Plymouth Rehab and Health Care Center, Plymouth, only weeks after being diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease. He was 79 years old.
Paul was born on June 22, 1937 in Somerset, Kentucky to Robert and Katherine (Radford) Harper. He was the first son born among six children.
Paul joined the Navy in 1957 and served on the Willis A. Lee Destroyer where he was an engineman. While in the Navy, he met his wife, Elaine Frances Blynn. They married on July 6, 1958 and lived in many places in Massachusetts and Ohio before settling down in Plympton, Massachusetts, where they raised their five children: Linda, Mark, Sandra, Paula and Shawnna. Paul used his mechanical skills from the Navy in his lifelong career as a diesel mechanic. He enjoyed putting those skills to work at Brush Hill in Dorchester, Hertz in Brockton, and Carey’s Motor Transportationin Whitman as well as starting his own business after retirement.
Paul loved spending time with his family and also his friends at the Upland Sportsman Club where he and Elaine were avid supporters. Those who knew Paul will remember his love of restoring cars and trucks, the enjoyment he got from keeping up the outside of his home, and of course, his signature cowboy hat he was never seen without. He also loved listening to country music and watching western movies.
Paul is survived by his five (5) children, Linda Tassinari of Carver, Massachusetts, Mark Harper of Clovis, New Mexico, Sandra Coelho of Carver, Massachusetts, Paula O’Brien of Clovis, New Mexico and Shawnna Carr of Rancho Mirage, California; three siblings, Mildred Hackathorn of Canton, Ohio, Nancy Siferd of Findlay, Ohio, and Floyd (Danny) Harper of Findlay, Ohio. He is also survived by 10 Grandchildren and 5 Great Grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Elaine Frances Blynn(2006), and also two of his siblings: Thelma Hutton (2010) and Jeffrey Harper (2009).

All services will take place at Shepherd Funeral Home, 216 Main Street, Kingston. Visiting hours are on Friday, October 7, 4-8 p.m. and the Funeral Service(followed by graveside and reception) will be on Saturday, October 8, 10:00 a.m. Donations can be made in Paul’s memory to the Scholarship Fund, Upland Sportsman Club, 76 Upland Road, Plympton, MA 02367.
