Obituary

CHICOPEE – Paul J. Demears, Jr., 66, of the Willimansett section of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Sunday, October 2, 2016. He passed into Eternal Life at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield with his loving fiancée, Carol, at his side. He was born in Springfield on March 9, 1950, a beloved son of the late Paul J. and Helen M. (Towsley) Demears. He was raised in Chicopee, graduated from the former Chicopee Trade High School and was a lifelong resident of Chicopee. He served his country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War and attained the rank of Seaman Apprentice. He was employed for many years by the City of Chicopee as a heavy equipment operator with the Highway Department for the Department of Public Works. He was a communicant of Sainte Rose de Lima Church in Chicopee. He was an avid NASCAR fan, a Certified P.A.D.I. Scuba Diver and enjoyed scuba diving, sky diving, hunting and fishing. He collected Corvette memorabilia, was a member of the Corvette Car Club and enjoyed going to many local car shows. He also was an Honorary Sheriff with the Hampden County Sheriff’s Department. Above all, he loved all of his family and friends. Besides his beloved parents, he was predeceased by his dear sister, Helen A. Demears; and his faithful canine companion, his dog, Dozer. He leaves his beloved longtime fiancée and best friend, Carol A. Laflamme, with whom he lived; his two loving sons, Shawn P. Demears and his partner, Kelly Mecteau, and Timothy P. Demears, all of Chicopee; his cherished granddaughter, Alannah M. Demears of Chicopee; his three dear brothers, Wayne Demears and his wife, Michelle, of South Hadley, Alen Demears of Fort Pierce, FL and Bruce Demears of Westfield; his dear sister, Gail Dancer of Westfield; as well as his “best friend”, his dog, Sparky; and his many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, friends and extended members of the Demears and Laflamme families. His funeral will be held on Friday morning, October 7, 2016 beginning at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, (funeral home will open at 9 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. at Sainte Rose de Lima Church, 600 Grattan Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His Burial with United States Navy Military Honors will follow the Mass at Sainte Rose Cemetery, 49 Olsen Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, October 6, 2016 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. The parking lot and main entrance of the funeral home are located in the rear at 20 Lafayette Street, Chicopee, MA 01020.
