Charles R. "Whitey" Coppess, Sr. of Anderson died at his residence after a year long illness

Whitey was born December 17, 1931, in Anderson, the son of Loyd and Genevieve (Armie) Coppess.

He was a forklift driver at Inland Fisher Guide for 38 years before retiring in 1991.

He co-owned with his wife, Elizabeth, B & W Ventures and Edgewood Texaco Station. He was a former member of Elks Lodge # 209; U.A. W. Local 663 and Fraternal Order of Eagles # 231.

He attended Church of God Trinity Assembly of Muncie.

He used to race stock cars at Sun Valley Speedway.

Survivors include his six children, Shari Lynn Hughes of Anderson; Charles R. (Loretta) Coppess Jr. of Omaha, NE; Suzanne Marie (Michael) Krugler of Noblesville, Loyd Edward Coppess of Muncie, Donna Jean (Brad) Groves of Kansas City, MO; and Marvin Allen "Skip" (Susan) Coppess of Muncie; 18 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren; brother, Jack (Esther) Coppess of Fla.; special friend, Joan Rigney of Muncie and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Elizabeth M. Coppess died 2004, son David Dwayne Coppess, brother, Claude Coppess and a sister, Vera Reeder.

Funeral service will be 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, October 8 at Rozelle-Johnson Funeral Service with Pastor Jerry Blevins officiating. Burial is in East Maplewood Cemetery. Visitation two hours prior to the service.
