Dorothy F Nason Cunningham, 80, of East Bridgewater, Massachusetts died on September 30 at Boston Medical Center following an injury.
Born in Randolph, Massachusetts in 1936 to Perley Nason and Elizabeth (Larsen) Nason, she graduated from Stetson High School and worked for Verizon until she took an early retirement. Although she had several paying jobs following her retirement, she cherished her time as a volunteer at South Shore Hospital’s Maternity Concierge desk.
She loved to care for others, dance, laugh, drink whiskey or cheap wine, tell inappropriate jokes, bake, go to the beach, and snuggle with babies. She was a fierce competitor who loved to play cards and Scrabble. She volunteered for many organizations and assisted countless friends with many projects. She enjoyed her time as a member of the Red Hat Society. She loved to host gatherings for friends and adored her dogs. She battled Alzheimer’s disease like it was nobody’s business. She had a large circle of friends that she loved to visit and travel with. She loved her family with her whole heart and cherished every moment she had with her grandchildren.
She leaves behind three children Richard Cunningham Jr of Eden Prairie, Minnesota, Myles Scott Cunningham of Berkley, and Christina Bailey of East Bridgewater. She leaves behind her sister Arlene Freeman of Mendon; her grandchildren Samantha, Cory, Kaylin, Cameron, Adam, Shea, and Lia. Among her many friends, she leaves behind her best friend, Mary Wilkinson of Hanover. She is predeceased by her siblings Howard, Marion, Robert, Alfred, Eleanor, Helen, and Hilda.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Funeral Services on Thursday October 6 at 10 a.m. in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, 666 Plymouth Street (Rte. 58 @ the rotary) Whitman. Burial will follow in the Central Cemetery, East Bridgewater. Visiting hours will be held Wednesday October 5 from 4 to 7 p.m.
