Camanche E. Ray, 76, of New Bedford died Friday September 30, 2016 at home surrounded by his family. He was the husband of the late Elizabeth A. (Conceicao) Ray.
Born in Washington, D.C., the son of the late Harry J. and Elizabeth (Paine) Ray, he lived in New Bedford for most of his life.
Mr. Ray was formerly employed as a master printer, teacher, and counselor for the Fort Rodman Job Corps, the Opportunity Industrialization Center in Boston, and P.A.C.E. until his retirement.
He was a graduate of Francis Cardozo High School in Washington, D.C.
He is survived by three sons, Camanche E. Ray and wife Deanne of New Bedford, Edmond D. Ray of Dartmouth, and Dennis E. Ray of New Bedford; a brother, Eric Ray of Washington, D.C.; three grandchildren, Tyler E. Ray, Jamal C. Ray, and Jarid White; four great-grandchildren, Maddox T. Ray, Nora Elizabeth Ray, Jayce White, and Jett White; and many nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late Harriet Ray, Harry Ray, Andrea Ray, Ronald Ray, Kenneth Ray, and Lauritz Ray.
His Funeral will be held on Wednesday at 8 AM from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford, followed by his Funeral Mass at Our Lady of the Assumption Church at 9 AM.
