Ronald Giddens, 80, of Irwin County, Georgia, died Saturday, October 1, 2016, at Memorial University Medical Center in Savannah.
Funeral services will be held 2 PM, Tuesday, October 4, 2016, at Frank Primitive Baptist Church in Irwin County with the Rev. Rex Johnson officiating. Interment will follow in Frank Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until the service hour at the church on Tuesday.
Mr. Giddens was born February 1, 1936, in Irwin County, Georgia, to the late Tally Giddens and Bessie Purvis Giddens Tucker. He was a graduate of Irwin County High School and a lifelong farmer. Ronald enjoyed time with his family and friends. He was a farmer by trade and loved what he did. He received countless awards for his participation in local farm organizations. His favorite place to visit was The Cabin in Long County and he spent countless weekends there with his family and Ocilla friends. Christmas at the Cabin, with campfire, much laughter and family, was the highlight of the last decade of his life. He was dedicated to his Frank Church family and enjoyed the time he spent participating in “For Unto You is Born a Savior” and taking the church widows and widowers out for supper several times a year. He enjoyed NASCAR and football. He was a member of Frank Primitive Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Dean Wright Giddens of Irwin County; three daughters and their spouses: Sherry & Dwight Werner of Sunman, Indiana, Rhonda & Jimmy Dasher of Vidalia, and Anita & Walt Dasher of Glennville; grandchildren: Blake Dasher, Mackenzie & Sally Werner, Zachary Dasher, Kelby Werner, Nicholas Dasher, Emma Dasher, and Malaree Dasher; a brother-in-law: Talmadge Wright, Jr. and his wife Mary Clyde of Irwin County; as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his step-father, E.J. Tucker; two brothers, James Tally Giddens and Vernon Giddens; and a sister-in-law, Joyce Pate.
