John Viveiros passed away peacefully at the Lahey Clinic in Burlington. He was 93. Born and raised on Concord Ave. in Somerville, he was the son of the late John and Josephine (Reposa) Viveiros. He served in The US Navy during World War II. He participated in combat in the Pacific Theater aboard the Battleship USS Wisconsin and was a plank owner of the ship. A proud member of the greatest generation, John worked hard throughout his life and provided the best he could for his family. A Medford resident for over 40 years, he worked for the truck manufacturer Lewis & Shepherd for many years. He also worked in facilities maintenance for 20 years with Medford Public Schools, before he retired. He was devoted to his wife, family and many friends.
The beloved husband of the late Assunta “Sue” (Iovine), he was a devoted father to John A. Viveiros and his wife Patricia Shannon of Marblehead, Stephen Viveiros and his companion Loraine Dunn of Centerville, Anthony C. Viveiros and his wife Kristin Johnson of Charlestown and Susan M. Sullivan and her husband Brian J. of North Reading. He was a loving papa to Emily Sullivan, Augustus Viveiros and Cecilia Viveiros as well as a dear brother of the late Sr. Cecilia Viveiros, MM.
His funeral will be from the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St. Medford, Monday October 3rd at 9 AM followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Francis of Assisi Church, 441 Fellsway West, Medford, at 10 AM. Services will conclude with burial at Mount Auburn Cemetery, Cambridge. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Sunday 4-8 PM.
