Orren “Butch” Hellwege August 12, 1921 – September 25, 2016. Loving Husband, Father, Grandfather, Great Grandfather and friend. Age 95 Butch passed peacefully at home with his family at his side into Eternal Life on September 25, 2016. He was a native of Cape Girardeau, Missouri and resided in Taunton since 1946. He is survived by his four sons, Robert of Taunton, David of Florida, Brian of California and Richard of Taunton. He also has several loving grandchildren, Kristine of Lakeville, Michael of Assonet, Shelly of Taunton, Hollie of Pocasset, Richard of Taunton, Jason of Alabama, Joey (deceased) and Heather of Florida. And great grandchildren Justin, Ashley, Abigail, Adam, Nathaniel, Jonathan, Peyton, Joseph, Josue and Janiya. He was the son of Martin and Nina Hellwege of Missouri. He is preceded by brothers and sisters Rosena, Olga, Mary, Wilma, Norman, Ida, Ira, Gladys and Dorothy. Butch met his wife Eva at Myles Standish demarcation camp in Taunton shortly after World War II. They soon married and raised their family in Taunton. He was a very kind, loving and caring Father and Husband whose career was devoted to providing a warm and loving home for his family. He was a not only an excellent student but excelled in many sports in high school including starting quarterback for the football team. He was an excellent 10-pin bowler with an above 200 average, played semi pro baseball travelling along the eastern seaboard and was a terrific golfer. He was a World War II U. S. Army veteran serving in the European Theatre. He followed many sports while his favorites were MLB baseball, NFL football, NCAA football, PGA golf and PBA bowling. His favorite teams were the New York Yankees, Boston Red Sox, St. Louis Cardinals, New England Patriots, Indianapolis Colts, Denver Broncos and the Boston Celtics. He and Eva loved playing Saturday night poker games with Eva’s brothers, sisters and their spouses. He also loved the beaches of Cape Cod and enjoyed many summers at Mitchell’s Cottages in Brewster with his family. And in his later years he and his wife spent the winter months with their son David in Florida. He always enjoyed countless weekend pool parties at his home with his family. Visitation will be on Wednesday, September 28, 2016 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at O’Keefe-Wade Funeral Home on 70 Washington Street in Taunton. A Mass of Christian Burial in celebration of his life will be held on Thursday, September 29, 2016 at 10:00 AM at Saint Mary’s Catholic Church in Taunton. Internment will immediately follow at the Saint Francis Cemetery on Glebe Street in Taunton.
