Obituary

Mary Catherine (Doherty) Ginnetty a resident of Medford and beloved wife of the late Matthew B. Ginnetty, passed away, peacefully at her home, on Thursday morning, September 22, 2016. She was 96 years old. Born in Medford, Massachusetts, on April 5, 1920, she was the beloved daughter of the late Joseph L. and Mary C. (Jennings) Doherty. Mary was a graduate of the Medford High School, class of 1938 and had attended Boston College. Above all, Mary was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She will be dearly missed. 
 
Mary was employed for many years as an Executive Secretary at a number of governmental and non-profit venues, including Secretary to Medford Mayor John Carr and at Cardinal Spellman High School in Brockton. She left her work with the Mayor of Medford to enlist in the U.S. Navy. She is a World War II veteran, having served as a Chief Petty Officer in WAVES, both in Miami FL and Boston. She was active in Pro-Life activities, including the South Shore Chapter of the Massachusetts Citizens for Life. She had typed the church bulletin for the Holy Family Parish in Rockland for more than 20 years.
 
She is survived by her loving children; Paul F. and his wife Carole Ginnetty of Smithtown, New York, Mary E. and her husband Joseph Humby of North Branford, Connecticut, Eileen A. Ginnetty of Medford with whom she lived, Joyce E. and her husband Richard Bickerton of Topsfield and Matthew D. and his wife Katherine Ginnetty of Wrentham, cherished grandchildren; Meaghan and her husband Ryan Singer and Patrick, Kara, Brendan, Daniel, Nathan, Jared and David Ginnetty and Sean and his wife Joelle Bickerton, Liam Bickerton, Michael Humby and her dear great-granddaughter Amalia Bickerton, and many beloved nieces and nephews. She was also the sister of the late Joseph L. and Francis D. Doherty of Medford.
Her funeral will be held from the Beals-Geake-Magliozzi Funeral Home, 29 Governors Avenue, Medford on Wednesday, September 28, 2016, at 9 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated in St. Joseph Church, 118 High Street, Medford at 10 AM. Relatives and friends are most welcome to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, September 27, 2016, from 4 to 8 PM. Interment will be held St. Joseph Cemetery, W. Roxbury.
