Obituary

Oscar R. LaBrack, 84, of 280 Webster St. Worcester passed away on Wednesday, September 21, 2016 at home surrounded by his family, after a very brief battle with cancer. As Oscar would say, when he heard or read of someone’s passing, “Well I’ll bet he/she never did that before…and chances are, he/she will never do it again”. He insisted that these words be included in his obituary. He lived life to the fullest, working at least two jobs his entire life, walking 3.5 miles per day, meticulously landscaping his own and several client’s yards. Most recently he also was a stellar crossing guard at the Swanson Road Intermediate School in Auburn, where he was adored by all. Oscar took care of his large family right up until he became ill. He was strong, intelligent, handy, very handsome (still sporting some black hair) and the rock of our family.
The love of his life, Natalie Meredith (Teed) LaBrack passed away in July of 1997. They were married on June 14, 1952 and spent 45 wonderful years together, building a rock-solid foundation for their family. Oscar leaves his five children who will miss him to the moon and back. Christine L. McDannell and her husband Karl of E. Stroudsburg PA, Pamela A. Hallen and her husband Dennis S. of Auburn, MA, Vanessa J. Delorey, with whom he made his home, Kenneth O. LaBrack and his wife Kelly (McRell) of Clinton, Nettie Kittredge and her partner Russell Corfey, who lived upstairs from Oscar and Vanessa. Oscar also leaves Nettie’s former husband, Peter J. Kittredge of Clinton and Vanessa’s former husband, Clarence E. Delorey of Clinton.
Oscar had 10 grandchildren and 11.5 great-grandchildren. Aaron McDannell and his wife Patti, Justin McDannell and his wife Inez, Matthew McDannell and his wife Lani , Vanessa Lawson, Marcianna (Lawson) Kimball and her husband Rich, Carolyn (Lawson) Moss and her husband Stephen, Jaclyn (Delorey) Wilson and her husband Dan, Allison Delorey, Nathan Kittredge, and Sarah Kittredge. His great-grandchildren Bennett, Aidan, and Scarlett McDannell, Hannah B. Lawson, Taylor Poirier, Riley Bazinet, Alannis, Richard, Jonathan, and David Kimball, Henry Moss, and his soon-to be born unnamed-as-yet baby brother.
Oscar grew up in Clinton, son of Helen (Bixby) and Oscar LaBrack, and leaves siblings Audrey Kamataris, Guy, Frank, and Paul LaBrack, Linda Combs, Lauren Bell, and Debbie Vasquez. He was predeceased by his siblings Louis and Kenneth LaBrack, Helen DiMeco, and Susan Smith. Another sister, Barbara, died as an infant. He had a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
The family would like to send a heartfelt thank-you for the extraordinary care and compassion for Oscar and his entire family from his primary care, Karen Fleming, CRNP of the Auburn Reliant Medical Group, and Cherie Sirard, RN of Central Mass Hospice. They helped to make a very difficult time in our lives much easier.
Oscar was well known for his many witty “Oscarism’s”, which will be shared at a Celebration of Life on Saturday, September 24, 2016 at the Auburn/Webster Lodge of Elks at 754 Southbridge St. In Auburn, MA from 1:00-4:00pm. Friends and family are invited to attend and share with us.
We love you, Dad, Pupa, Papa, Oscar, Pop, and will hold all our beautiful memories of you in our hearts forever.
