Ruth I. (Carlson) Higuera, age 83, of Brockton for over 50 years, died September 19, 2016 at home surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of Alfred M. Higuera. Born in Quincy and raised in Quincy, Braintree and Weymouth, Ruth was the daughter of the late Eric A. and Marion (Erickson) Carlson. She was also a resident of Randolph before making her home in Brockton.
Ruth was a stay at home mother while her children grew up, however returned to work in her later years. She held many part time jobs, including working at Stop and Shop and Star Market in Quincy, Bradlees in Brockton and Osco Drug in Holbrook before her retirement in 1992. Ruth was a member of Publishers Clearing House, Home and Garden Clubs and the Home Shopping Club. She enjoyed ballroom, swing and disco dancing, gardening, cooking and baking, bowling, and taking trips to various beaches, both fresh and saltwater. Ruth also enjoyed shopping and lunching with her mother, as well as spending time with her family. Her sons and grandchildren brought her great enjoyment. Ruth will be remembered as a kind, friendly person who found humor, joy and laughter in almost everything.
Ruth also leaves behind her children Alan M. Higuera and his wife Heidi of South Easton, and Paul M. Higuera and his wife Pam of Brockton; 5 grandchildren Nicole Shea and her husband Jeremy, and Michael, Ashley, Victoria and Joseph Higuera; and 3 great grandchildren William and Nolan Shea, and Emmitt Higuera. She also leaves many nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Donald Carlson and Dorothy Melsky.
Visiting hours will be held in the Conley Funeral Home 138 Belmont St. (rte. 123) Brockton on Sunday 2-5pm. Her funeral service will be celebrated in the funeral home on Monday at 11:30am.
