Obituary

Mary A. (Marelli) Caruso, age 93, of Brockton, died September 20, 2016, surrounded by her family, due to complications from Alzheimer’s. Mary was the loving wife of the late Peter J. Caruso. Born and raised in Brockton, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Rose (Guencani) Marelli. Mary was a 1941 graduate of Brockton High School and following her graduation from Boston City School of Nursing in 1944, she enlisted in the Army as a nurse. For many years she was employed as a nurse in Brockton Hospital’s Labor and Delivery unit and retired as a school nurse in 1988 from Brockton High School. Mary adored her grandchildren, enjoyed cooking and baking for family and friends, and taking daily walks. She had been a longtime communicant of St. Edward’s and Our Lady of Lourdes Churches.

Mary is survived by her children Peter Caruso, Jr. and his wife Myrlene of Brockton and Lisa Austin and her husband Richard of Foxboro; four grandchildren Elizabeth and James Austin and Matthew and Jennifer Caruso. She also leaves many nieces and nephews.
A funeral Mass will be held in Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Monday at 10:30am followed by burial in Melrose Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations in Mary’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association, 480 Pleasant Street, Watertown, MA 02472.
