Josephine “Josie” D. White (Salerno) passed away at the Cape Cod Hospital of Hyannis on Saturday afternoon. She was 84. Born and raised in Somerville, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Colomba (Leo) Salerno. A Somerville resident for much of her life she also lived in Medford for many years before settling in Dennis Port in 2005. A devoted wife and mother who adored her granddaughters, Josie volunteered for many years. She also worked in the food service departments of several colleges including, the Boston Conservatory, Fisher Junior College, Wheelock College and Harvard.
The beloved wife of the late Raymond L. White, Jr., who passed away in 2012, Josie was a devoted mother to Raymond "Jackie" White and his wife Marie of Tewksbury, Nancy Curtin and her husband Michael of Easton. She was a loving grandmother to Jennifer, Stephanie, Elizabeth and Deirdre. The dear sister of Nicholas Salerno, Ann Messuri and Gilda "Jean" Delaney, she also leaves many nieces and nephews.
Her funeral will be from the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford, Thursday, September 22 at 10:30 AM followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Joseph Church, 118 High Street, Medford, at 11:30 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Services will conclude with burial at MA National Cemetery, Bourne. Visiting hours Wednesday 4 – 8 PM.
