Obituary

Edward Couto, 86, of New Bedford died September 17, 2016 unexpectedly at Charlton Memorial Hospital.
He was the husband of Jean (Auclair) Couto.
Born in New Bedford, the son the late Joseph and Mary (Mello) Couto, he was raised in Acushnet and lived in New Bedford for the last 28 years.
He was a communicant of St. Stanislaus Church in Fall River.
Mr. Couto ran the family farm in Acushnet for many years before being discovered as being a singer with a golden voice. He sang many years with the Rene Depot Duo featuring Eddie Couto. Many people met, fell in love and married to his music. At the age of 50, he graduated from Barber Stylist School and opened the Clip Joint, which he ran until his retirement 3 years ago.
He enjoyed feeding animals and birds and he enjoyed the company of his cat Cauliflower.
Survivors include his wife; a brother, William Couto of Brockton; 4 sisters, Dorothy Warburton and Evelyn Gauthier, both of Dartmouth, Irene Arruda of New Bedford and Mary Lou McCarthy of Sodus, NY; a grandson, Joseph Frank of New Bedford; a great-grandson, Maddox Frank; and several nieces and nephews, including Brenda Lang and Cal Collingham who he helped raise.
He was the step-father of the late Joseph Frank and the brother of the late Lorraine Collingham.

His Funeral will be held on Friday, September 23rd at 8:30 AM from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford, followed by his Funeral Mass at St. Stanislaus Church, 36 Rockland St., Fall River at 10 AM. Visiting hours will be on Thursday, September 22nd from 4-8 PM. Burial will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery.
