Obituary

Dr. Edward A. Zullo, 94, of Natick died Monday September 12, 2016 at the Newton Wellesley Hospital. He was the beloved husband of the late Maureen (Blake) Zullo and was former husband of the late Michaeline (DiGregorio) Zullo.

Born in Natick he was the son of the late Pompilio and Olympia (Annesi) Zullo.

Dr. Zullo owned and operated the Natick Animal Clinic for 45 years. He provided continual, specialized care to many types of animals with compassion, expertise and commitment and love for his animals until his retirement in 1994. For more than 30 years he was the official Veterinarian Massachusetts State Police Canine Unit, was Emergency Management Liaison Officer for Mass, as well as their court witness for animal related cases. He was the Official Veterinarian for the National Lancers for 30 years. He served in the following capacity as, Veterinarian for the New England Aquarium , Natick’s Animal Inspector, and was Animal Inspector for the Massachusetts Division of Livestock Disease Control for more than 30 years.

Dr. Zullo was Past President of the Massachusetts State Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners, National Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners, and from 1963-1978 was on the Examiners Executive Committee, and was a member of the AVMA Committee on Animal Technician Activities and Training, was on the Board of Trustees of the Tufts University School of Veterinary Medicine in Grafton, and on Board Directors of Becker Junior College, and was actively involved with the N.E.A.D.S. Committee dogs for deaf and disabled persons.

He received, from King Umberto of Italy, the Title of Cavaliere Royal Cross/Crown, also from the Italian Republic received the Star of Solidarity of the Italian Republic of Italy (highest civilian award)

He was a 50 year member of the Ancient and Honorable Artillery Company and held the Rank of Colonel for the past 25 years. aide de camp to the Governor of Massachusetts, For 15 years he reenacted the part as Paul Revere in his ride from Boston to Lexington during the annual Patriots Day celebration.

In 1994 he received the Massachusetts Veterinary Medical Association Distinguished Service Award, Man of the year Award from the Ancient and Honorable Artillery Company. Dr. Zullo was inducted into the Natick High School Wall of Achievement for Outstanding Service to the Natick Community.

For many years Dr. Zullo was featured on local TV Channel 5 with Janet Langhart and radio shows for his expertise and helpful advice for pet owners.

Dr. Zullo was a member of the American Legion, the Algonquin Club of Boston, Rotary International and the Natick Elks.

He was a graduate of Middlesex University Veterinary School class of 1944 and was a Veteran of the United States Army during World War II.

He is survived by four children, Loretta Zullo Presutti and her husband David of Natick, Christine MacGregor of Natick, Edward M Zullo and his wife Carol of West Falmouth, Celeste Zullo Palaza of Wellington FL, grandchildren Renee Murphy , Jennifer Hartley and her husband Jeff , Edward W Zullo, Marco Palaza, Danielle Palaza, and great-grandchildren, Madison, Avery, and Seamus Murphy, and many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral on Wednesday September 28 at 10:00 A.M. from the John Everett and Sons Funeral Home 4 Park Street, at Natick Common followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St Patrick’s Church at 11:00 A.M.

Visiting hours are Tuesday September 27 from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M.

Interment in St Tarcisius Cemetery, Framingham.
