WAYLAND: Francesca “Fran” (Hall) Hill, 98, of Wayland, died peacefully and comfortably on Saturday, September 10, 2016 at her residence in Wayland.
She was born in Danville, Virginia on November 12, 1917 the daughter of the late Raymond and Sadie Hall.
She was the wife of the late Parmelee Corwin Hill who died on November 20, 1985.
Fran was the beloved mother of Parmelee C. “Lee” Hill, Jr. of Houston, TX; Edward W. Hill and his wife Alice Hill of Chelmsford and the late James H. Hill who died in January 2016. Also survived by her daughter-in-law Eleanor (Baer) Hill of Marshfield. Cherished grandmother of James H. Hill, Jr. of Taos, New Mexico; Douglas Hill and his wife Marcy Hill of Poughquag, NY; Sarah Hill Nobles and her husband Bruce Nobles of Halifax; Jennifer Hill of Chelmsford; Jessica Hill Burgess and her husband Daniel Burgess of Kingston; Eric Hill and his wife Diana Hill of Dracut and the late Elizabeth Hill. Also survived by seven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Sister of the late Sadie Howe and Raymond Hall.
Fran spent her formative years in Danville, VA and resided in Glastonbury, CT before moving to Wayland 62 years ago. She received her BS in Education from Wheaton College and in her earlier years, before she married, she was a kindergarten teacher. Fran was an active member of Trinitarian Congregational Church and was one of the floral arrangers for the church and the Alter Guild. She was a longtime member, since 1952, of the Wayland Garden Club and well into her nineties she attended lecture series. She was also a member of the Colonial Dames of America. She was a volunteer at the Vokes Theatre in Wayland and was a volunteer at the Wayland Polls into her eighties. She was a member of the Wayland Swim and Tennis Club and enjoyed playing tennis. She was a gracious “Southern Lady” and enjoyed meeting people from all walks of life. She will be fondly remembered by all who knew her.
Private family interment will be in the Hill family lot in North Cemetery in Wayland.
A Memorial Service celebrating Fran’s life will be held on Sunday, Sept. 25, 2016 at
2:00 o’clock at Trinitarian Congregational Church, 52 Cochituate (Rte 27/126), Wayland.
