Obituary

Maxie was born in Louisville KY in 1944 to Johnny and Iona. He lived in Louisville his entire life, attending Valley high school and later graduating from Shawnee high school. He worked with his father at Tube Turns, then for Jefferson County in the maintenance department where he retired after 27 years of service.

He lost his wife Barbara of 24 years suddenly in 1996. He is also preceded in death by his mother Iona Starkey, and father Johnny Capps. He is survived by his son Adam Capps and his partner, Heather Hedgepeth, and brother Gary Starkey.

Max never met a stranger. He had an extraordinary ability to make anyone that talked to him for more than a few minutes instantly like him. He could tell a joke like no other, and people were naturally fond of him. He relished going to yard sales and flea markets. He would barter with even the most hardened seller, usually coming away with the better deal.

He loved his wife Barbara, and was shattered at her passing in 1996.

Max had a special closeness with his son, Adam. When Adam was younger Max taught him to fish and to shoot. Shooting was the past time that he reveled in, and even as age and illness took hold, he still cherished shooting time with his son.

He was a good man. And will be missed by all, especially his son.

Visitation will be 10am-1pm Monday at Owen Funeral Home - Jeffersontown, 9318 Taylorsville Road with the funeral service to follow at 1pm. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
