Mary A. (Conley) Nelson age 90, formerly of W. Bridgewater died Tuesday, September 13, 2016 at the Jewish Healthcare Center in Worcester after a period of failing health. She was the beloved wife of the late John S. Nelson.
Mary was born and raised in Brockton, a daughter of the late J. Frank and Alice L. (McCarthy) Conley. A 1944 graduate of Brockton High School, Mary earned her Bachelor’s Degree from Colby College in Waterville, ME. She taught German at Haverhill High School for several years before she was Director of Special Services for the US government in Kaiserslauten, Germany.
Mary was a substitute teacher in the W. Bridgewater school system. She was devoted to her home and family and enjoyed time spent with her children and grandchildren. Mary will be remembered for her baking prowess; everyone loved her home cooking.
She volunteered for many organizations and enjoyed working around her home and yard. She was devoted to her Catholic faith and could be seen walking to Mass every morning.
Mary is survived by her four loving children, Mary Ellen Davis and her husband Steven of W. Boylston, John C. Nelson and his wife Margaret of Wilmington Island , GA, Christopher E. Nelson and his wife Jennifer of W. Bridgewater and Stephen R. Nelson and his wife Linda of Middleboro; 8 grandchildren, Robert, Michael and Meredith Davis, Lindsay Nelson Meade, Christopher Nelson, Jillian, Caroline and Sophia Nelson and 1 great grandson. She was the sister of Susanne Cummings of Simsbury, CT, the late J. Frank, Jr and James J. Conley. She also leaves many nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be held in the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont St (Rte 123), Brockton Friday from 5-8pm. The funeral procession will gather at the funeral home on Saturday at 9am for a 10am Mass at St. Ann’s Church W. Bridgewater. Burial to follow in Pine Hill Cemetery.
