Vivian P. (Giguere) Oliveira, 85, of New Bedford died Monday September 12, 2016 at St. Luke's Hospital after a long illness.
Born in Hyannis, the daughter of the late Henry J. and Yvonne D. (Cusson) Giguere, she lived in New Bedford for most of her life. She was a graduate of New Bedford Vocational High School.
Mrs. Oliveira was formerly employed as a secretary in the mortgage department at New Bedford Institution for Savings until her retirement.
Vivan was active in retreats at La Salette Shrine in Attleboro and was very involved in parish activities at St. Kilian's Church, where she was the parish secretary in her retirement years.
She enjoyed knitting and spending time with her family and friends.
Survivors include four children, Debra J. Pequita and her husband Thomas of Acushnet, Mark J. Oliveira and his wife Pauline of Acushnet, David J. Oliveira and his wife Kim of Dartmouth, and Maria Harris Grace of New Bedford; three sisters, Rhea Teves-Cate of Fairhaven, Nancy Guy of New Bedford, and Irene Leger-Bohling of South Carolina; six grandchildren, Sarah, Lauren, Jake, Keith, Holly, and Emma; six great-grandchildren, Ethan, Jean-Luke, Vienne, Autumn, Isaac, and Avaleigh; and many nieces and nephews.
Her Funeral will be held on Friday at 7:45 AM from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford, followed by her Funeral Mass at St. John Neumann Church, East Freetown at 9 AM. Visiting hours will be on Thursday from 4-8 PM. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Fairhaven. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the charity of one's choice.
