Webb, George E. Jr, 92, of Wellesley, died September 11th at home, surrounded by family, and with his dog at his feet. He was pre-deceased by his wife Marie (Landry), to whom he was married for 61 years. Also predeceased by a daughter, Patty, his brother, John, his sisters, Janet & Cora, and his grandson Benjamin Harvey. He is survived by daughters Peggy Webb, Susan Webb, Nancy & her husband David Leblang, & granddaughters Amy & Erica Leblang.
He grew up in Wellesley, a 1941 graduate of Wellesley High School, then raised his family here. He completed a program in Machine Work & Tool Making at Wentworth Institute before serving in WWII (Co F 275th Inf Regt). A Wellesley police officer for 32 years, he was a patrolman, detective, then sergeant, retiring in 1978. As a police officer, he took courses in the Law Enforcement program at Northeastern University.
He was active in the Natick Grange, in Wellesley VFW Post 5190 and a life-long member of Wellesley’s Masonic Lodge AF&AM. He enjoyed family camping, and made many friends in the Charles River Camping Association. In retirement, he and Marie enjoyed winters in Florida at Reflections in Avon Park with old camping friends and many new friends. In Florida, they treasured being close to a dear niece, Shirley Milligan, her husband Bob & their children. He loved being outdoors: camping, skiing, working in his vegetable garden, or puttering in the yard. He and Marie also enjoyed square dancing.
Funeral Service in the George F. Doherty & Sons Funeral Home, 477 Washington St. (Rt.16) Wellesley, Thursday September 15 at 12 Noon. Relatives and friends kindly invited. Visiting hours on Wednesday in the funeral home from 4:30-6:30pm. Interment Woodlawn Cemetery, Wellesley.
